After their daily Kalashnikov asana, an armed yoga group holds up a mirror to their radicalized international following: can we achieve our ideals without the use of weapons? And if not now, could it happen in the future?
Exploring the viability of pacifism, the theater audience is held hostage by violent textual theatre that, in De Warme Winkel’s tradition, balances earnestness and irony, to be able to once again face 21st-century life, mentally liberated and physically purified. For once, Gandhi plays a supporting role − the performance is only loosely based around his biography.
After their German-language debut Der Bus nach Dachau was selected for the prestigious Berliner Theatertreffen theatre festival, Schauspielhaus Bochum invited De Warme Winkel back to light another fuse on the German powder keg.
"The evening isn't linear – it has fractures, even formal ones, but these don’t distract from it. On the one hand, this is due to the precise and very physically present commitment of the actors, and on the other, because problems aren't reduced to simple formulas – their complexity is clarified. Not an easy evening, but an enriching one." — Westfälischer Anzeiger
• De Warme Winkel is nationally and internationally acclaimed for its witty, cheeky, and intelligent productions. For example, they plagiarized Pina Bausch's Café Müller in its entirety in De Warme Winkel speelt De Warme Winkel (De Warme Winkel plays De Warme Winkel), put the (sexual) identity debate on edge in Lady Chatterley's Lover and Brideshead Revisited (both performed at Kaaitheater), pulverized cars in Amsterdam’s Bostheater with Het Zomeroffer (The Summer Sacrifice), shared the stage with reality TV stars from Temptation Island and Ex on the Beach in Een erfgoed aan de Ironie (A Heritage of Irony), and received critical acclaim for their shows about the climate crisis.
