Schools & Communities
Driven by the question “How To Be Many?”, our audience engagement work explores how theatre can be a place where different voices and backgrounds come together and influence one another. We create space for encounters, exchanges and shared experiences, both inside and outside the theatre. This is achieved through conversations and workshops, long-term projects, volunteering, or discovering theatre within an educational context.
Volunteers
The volunteers at Kaaitheater form a diverse community of people from different backgrounds, with varied interests and experiences. Their tasks range from promotion and distribution around the city to providing support during evening events and acting as social media ambassadors.
In addition to these regular tasks, we believe it is important to discover our volunteers’ other talents. That is why we look beyond their specific roles. Based on each person’s interests, talents and background, we seek ways in which volunteers can get involved within Kaaitheater and become part of the theatre. This could be through interpreting, photography or other creative contributions.
We also want to give something back to our volunteers. That’s why we organise opportunities for our volunteers to meet. Through joint activities, attending performances and sharing their experiences at Kaaitheater, they get to know each other and us better. This creates valuable contacts and new connections in a spontaneous and accessible way.

Schools & groups
Each season, we select performances that we believe tie in with the social and societal themes discussed in the classroom. We also offer tailored activities to accompany these performances, such as an introduction, a post-performance discussion or a workshop. For more information about our school programme, please visit the schools page.
These bespoke activities are not limited to schools, but are also open to other groups. Would you like to visit the Kaaitheater with your group for a guided tour or a personal experience?
City Projects
Playwatch
Playwatch is an initiative by the review platform pzazz.theater in collaboration with various cultural venues in Brussels, including Beursschouwburg, Kunstenfestivaldesarts, Passa Porta, KVS, Zinnema and Kaaitheater. The project brings together young theatre enthusiasts to watch performances and share their viewing experiences, developing these into critical reflections in various forms, usually reviews in the form of podcasts or written reviews.
WijkJury
The Brussels WijkJury is a participatory public initiative within the TheaterFestival, in which Brussels residents of different ages and cultural backgrounds watch and discuss performances together. The project is aimed at people with little theatre experience and seeks to lower the barrier to cultural participation.
Together, they attend around 10 performances offered by local partners (Bronks, Beursschouwburg, Zinnema, KVS and Kaaitheater) and, at the end of the programme, they choose their favourite performance, which will then be included in the programme for the next TheaterFestival.
