Again Forever

Lisa Vereertbrugghen

dance

For the past twelve years, Lisa Vereertbrugghen has explored the political and physical dimensions of (hardcore) techno music and dance. Now she is expanding her research into social dance at the other end of the speed spectrum: the slow dance. Again Forever approaches the slow dance as potentially subversive, a slow sister to rave dance. The performance focuses on the radical ways in which the slow dance interfaces with intimacy and time in an era dominated by productivity, speed, and isolation. The slow dance is pulled out of its traditional context and connected to today's queer nightlife. Slowing becomes a collective practice and a form of resistance.

"Again forever is microscopic choreography: it focuses on the smallest detail, on the exchange of energy, not on grand gestures. The dance we see is like an X-ray of a night-time party: always the same story, always the same ingredients, and yet different every time, with that tiny spark each time, that one moment when two partners briefly – not forever – share something."  — Pieter ‘T Jonck in pzazz

• Lisa Vereertbrugghen is a choreographer, dancer, and dramaturg based in Brussels. Her practice has explored social dance and the dynamics between music and movement on the dance floor since 2013. More specifically, she has developed a decade-long research project situated at the intersection of choreography, sound, and the emotional intensity of hardcore techno culture. Her work takes multiple forms, which include dance, performance, installation, and techno meditations. She initiated a new research trajectory in 2025, in which she explores an anti-patriarchal approach to slow dancing. She has previously presented works at Kaaitheater, including DISQUIET (2024) and While we are here (2026).
