Moving in Concert

dance
03—05.10.2019

‘Plasticity, in the wide sense of the word, means the possession of a structure weak enough to yield to an influence, but strong enough not to yield all at once. Organic matter, especially nervous tissue, seems endowed with a very extraordinary degree of plasticity of this sort...’ – William James

In Moving in Concert, Mette Ingvartsen creates a universe in which people, technology and organic matter coexist to create an abstract set of movements. Inspired by how bodies are sensorially affected by the digital, the performance explores a poetics of plasticity, abstraction and imagination.

Pressing questions about our present moment form the leitmotif for Ingvartsen and nine dancers. How can we understand technology as something that stays active in our bodies, even when all technical tools have been switched off? How does the omnipresence of technology affect the plasticity of our brain? And how can bodies move and organize their collectivity in a plastic manner?

Through light, shadow and reflection, the dancers open an enchanting landscape that you can enter as a viewer. Abstract movement, light sculptures and intense shades of colour present choreography as a process in which forms and patterns determine the experience of space, bodies and objects.

• The Danish dancer and choreographer Mette Ingvartsen graduated from PARTS in 2004 and was artist-in-residence at Kaaitheater from 2013 until 2016. She has made several thematic cycles around issues like ecology (The Artificial Nature Project) and sexuality (The Red Pieces). Moving in Concert opens a new research focused on technology.
