A hundred wars to world peace. Verein zur Aufhebung des Notwendigen

theatre
27—29.01.2016

The club for the abolition of the essential

A hundred wars to world peace is a meal that revolves around democracy. Not as an institutional instrument by which to organise the masses, but as something that you can familiarise yourself with in daily life. After all, what else is democracy but the fulfilling of individual and collective desires?

A meal brings people together in a convivial setting and at the same time accommodates our most personal convictions: existential, ethical, aesthetic, economic, social, ritual and religious. A meal is the perfect backdrop to a political confrontation. We make the kitchen our battleground!

In this performance, you and the others present in many ways form a community. This temporary community is given the almost untranslatable name of Verein zur Aufhebung des Notwendigen: the club for the abolition, the discontinuance and the preservation, but also the transcendence, of the essential or the indispensable.

As an individual member, you will have the fate of this community in your hands, with a shared responsibility. Others will probably have differing opinions and will defend them. But this production is not about consensus.

It is sometimes said that we are what we eat. This time you will experience eating what we are – and no one can predict what that will taste like.
