Helmut Lachenmann, Salut für Caudwell | Martin Siewert, New Work
The choreography of music
In 2005, the French choreographer Xavier Le Roy created a staged concert with music by the German composer Helmut Lachenmann. Its choreography makes use of the dissociation of sound and movement at the very moment the music is performed; the musicians’ movements become the material for the dance performance.
We shall be showing the second part of this performance on the closing evening of Pasta for Tired Dancers; the music is Lachenmann’s guitar duet Salut für Caudwell (1977). This 30-minute composition is a milestone in music written for guitar and produces unprecedented sounds from the instrument, delicate structures and a broad range of musical references.
In the second part you can hear the renowned guitarist, electronic musician and composer Martin Siewert, presenting his musical response to Salut für Caudwell with visuals by the German video artist Lillevan.
