anger angels

(ETERNAL LETDOWN)

Sophia Rodriguez Teresa Vittucci

performance

Performance artists Sophía Rodríguez (born in Venezuela, based in Brussels) and Teresa Vittucci (born in Austria, based in Zurich) are collaborating for the first time. In a hypnotic, humorous, and physical performance, they investigate anger as a transformative force. Two angelic messengers navigate a surreal, corporate life-inspired landscape, processing human anger. They confront the suppression of female anger through movement and voice, creating unexpected interactions with the scenography, the audience, and each other.

The performance feels like a deep massage of your connective tissue that you didn't know you needed: both unsettling and strangely reassuring. With sincere irony, hypersensitivity, and heavenly absurdity, Rodríguez and Vittucci channel anger into transcendental power; they float, sing in otherworldly tongues, and interact with their corporate environment. Have you ever heard a keyboard harmonize with a hole punch?

Rodríguez and Vittucci revalue anger – and especially female anger – following its historical rejection as irrational or dangerous. By embracing the emotional, physical, and fluid, the 'anger angels' invite us to pause at an emotion burning beneath the surface and to witness its potential for healing and collective transformation.

• Sophía Rodríguez (1984, VE/BE, she/her) is an actress, dancer, choreographer, and circus artist. She has studied circus, dance, and physical theatre in Venezuela (Universidad Experimental de las Artes), Cuba (Cuban National Circus School), and Switzerland (Accademia Dimitri). Her long-term exchange and training with David Zambrano has had a strong influence on her artistic practice. As a creator, she uses physical performance, embodied knowledge, voice, and improvisation as building blocks for energetic, feminist, and critical performances that always balance between disciplines. Kaaitheater previously presented her FRICTION (2023), in collaboration with Charleroi Danse.

• Teresa Vittucci (AT/CH, she/they) is a Vienna-born artist who has lived in Zurich since 2015. In her contemporary dance performance, she explores feminist and queer perspectives on pop culture, history, and religion, using subversive humour as an important starting point. Teresa has been working since 2018 on Trilogy in Praise of Vulnerability, consisting of the solo works HATE ME, TENDER, SANE SATAN, and the duet DOOM with Colin Self. Other works include UNLEASH (2012), LUNCHTIME (2015), ALL EYES ON (2017), and WE BODIES, a collaboration with Michael Turinsky and Claire Vivianne Sobottke. Teresa also maintains strong artistic ties with Belgium, and regularly collaborates with Belgian performers and makers. Her work ALL EYES ON was presented at VIERNULVIER’s With Pleasure festival, and CAMPO showed HATE ME, TENDER, and DOOM. Her physical, confrontational, and deeply personal artistic signature not only resonates with Rodríguez’s work but also holds an important place in the Belgian performing arts landscape.
