Since time immemorial, the idea of an island as a place of infinite possibilities has been a source of inspiration for writers and artists. In Crash Park, theatre-maker Philippe Quesne has written his own robinsonade. When the survivors of a plane crash emerge from the wreckage, they encounter the desert island and its inhabitants. Quesne was inspired by numerous myths and stories, such as Homer’s Odyssey and the fantasies of Jules Verne. Epic scenes alternate with melancholic wanderings, while the contemporary fable spotlights the greatness and the failings of the human race. Will the characters make the island their place of exile or will it be their utopia?
• Philippe Quesne’s distinctly visual work is performed in theatres across the world, from New York to Hong Kong. He is a regular guest at Kaaitheater, where he has presented, a.o., L'Effet de Serge, La Mélancolie des Dragons, La nuit des taupes, and (during Performatik17) Caspar Western Friedrich.
