Dying on Stage

performance
05—07.05.2018

Dying on Stage developed out of the yearly birthday celebrations of Christodoulos Panayiotou. Over the years, he has composed a personal – and ever-expanding – archive on the way fiction has the potential to escape mortality and finitude: from Dalida’s accurate reproduction of poses in her most tragic songs, to Michael Jackson's desire to perform one last time or Pasolini's metaphorical idea of a society dying on stage Dying on Stage is the intimate gesture with which Christodoulos Panayiotou discloses his archive, featuring a different selection from his contents each time. It is a gesture that nufifies the linearity of time and becomes an act of love: love of the show and its ability to overcome the reality of death. Dying on Stage combines the precision of a lecture with the digression of a night spent surfing the web, and thus questions the hierarchical order of our common culture.
