NO USE FOR BINOCULARS

theatre
16—17.02.2017

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't after you. – Joseph Heller

Robbed of its poetry

Never before in history has information about us been collected and saved on such a grand scale as it is today. 90% of all saved personal details in the world have been captured over the past two years. We are evolving towards a society in which everything is laid out openly on the table; a world teeming with information, but robbed of its mystery and poetry.

In NO USE FOR BINOCULARS, Renée Goethijn and Dries Gijsels go in search of the value of the hidden in this era of transparency. Their universe is populated with voyeurs and exhibitionists, with sharers and followers. The pair takes you with them on a disturbing trip through a world of long raincoats, hidden cameras and curtains. Slowly, the boundaries between who is watching and who is being watched, between what is real and what is fake, become blurred.

• Renée Goethijn and Dries Gijsels graduated from RITCS in 2013 and 2014. The young theatre makers found one another in their predilection for the absurd, the imperfect and the irrational. NO USE FOR BINOCULARS is their first performance.

The surprising style and daring surrealism are harbingers of an idiosyncratic, unique approach. – cuttingedge.be
