MONO
Polyphonic Dance
As a child, the choreographer Thomas Hauert was already fascinated by the ‘radiophonic pieces’ or radio plays he heard on the radio. They evoke whole worlds without using images. They are his inspiration for MONO. For this creation Hauert collaborated with the Colombian composer Fredy Vallejos, whom he got to know at IRCAM in Paris. They devised a piece with neither a linear story nor fixed characters, a polyphonic and abstract mosaic of intense impressions that surround the spectators and lead them into a disconcerting experience.
In MONO Hauert once again proves himself to be a master in mixing composed and improvised passages. He is accompanied on stage by six dancers from his company and the violist Noémie Bialobroda. Together they provide the sound and movement in a space that endlessly rearranges itself. They cause a short circuit in our rational thinking and immerse us in a sensitive and empathic experience.
