Chronicle
Sculptor and performance artist Lin Yilin is known for installations
that use such everyday materials as brick, water and money. In his installations with stacked bricks he examines the relationship
between sculpture and architecture, and between people and architecture.
Opening the
Spoken World festival, Lin Yilin will create the new performance Chronicle. Outside the Kaaitheater he will build a brick wall. Passers-by will be invited to dismantle the wall brick by brick and to
take away pieces of papers stashed away between the bricks. The work is
using Lin Yilin’s age and personal history – he started life as an
artist in 1989 – as a main thread.
Lin Yilin (1964) trained as a sculptor. He lives and works in the city of Guangzhou. In 1991 he set up the Big-Tail-Elephant Group with two other artists. Their work
documents the issue of the rapid changes in China’s cities.
