12/...im linken Rückspiegel auf dem Parkplatz von Woolworth, editions 3, 4 + 5/12

performance
27—29.05.2008

At the front

‘Mmm, really awful. Can you make it even worse?’ This is the provocative question posed by VA Wölfl, the artistic head of the German NEUER TANZ company.

The performance is a radio show for soldiers at the front. Twelve contemporary pop songs are alternated with light comments in ‘chewing gum English’. News reports on war casualties are delivered with as much brio as the weather forecast in July.

Wölfl’s dancers move cautiously and cold-bloodedly, whether they are playing an electric guitar on tiptoes or elegantly draping a leg over a synthesiser. Their singing is fully concentrated, even when they are operating a paper-shredder. 12 / ... im Linken Rückspiegel auf dem Parkplatz von Woolworth is a ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’ that makes a deep and lasting impression, until long after you have left the theatre.
