PARTS 20

Festival

The Performing Arts Research and Training Studios are twenty years old

It was on 4th September 1995 that PARTS, the Brussels dance school headed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, opened for its first generation of dance students. PARTS has had a considerable effect on the development of contemporary dance in Belgium and abroad. Since 1995 at least 400 dancers and choreographers have studied there. The vast majority of them were from abroad, originating from every continent. Some immediately returned to their native country after graduating, but for most of them Brussels remained their base or place of work briefly or for many years. Together, they have largely determined the character of contemporary dance in Belgium.

PARTS will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in many ways during the 2015-16 season. The best way of evaluating the significance and relevance of this anniversary is to look at the productions by former PARTS students. There will be no less than thirteen of them on the Kaaitheater programme for 2015-16, spread throughout the season.
