Movement and voice intertwine with experiences of motherhood. Through an intuitive process, Jimena Pérez Salerno explores choreographic scores that reflect on time as a plural experience, blending personal, ancestral, and collective memories. These layers shape the wisdom and sensations that emerge from the body, offering a somatic sound exploration.

Beginning with a song learned during her pregnancy, Jimena unearths its layers, creating a fabric woven from the lives that precede and follow her. The before, during, and after intertwine, exploring the resonance of voice and the materiality of the present moment. Inviting the audience into this space of movement, Jimena creates an opportunity to collectively explore what it means to bring the inside out through simple, shared gestures.

• Jimena Pérez Salerno is an Argentinian choreographer and dancer based in Brussels. She views choreographic practice as a system of relationships that enables modes of imagination, attention, and coexistence. Her work leans towards performative practices that activate unexpected contexts, allowing collective reflections to emerge through embodied experiences.

In her last project, Unproductive Will, she explored the concept of expanded choreography as a critical approach to political awareness, reflecting on the Western notion of linear time and productive behaviour—both of which she considers collective colonial wounds.

She obtained a postgraduate degree from a.pass in 2022, an MA in Scenic Practice and Visual Culture from ARTEA and the Reina Sofía Museum, Madrid, in 2019, and a degree in Choreographic Composition from the National University of Arts in Argentina in 2014. In 2019, she was awarded the Danceweb scholarship at the ImPulsTanz International Dance Festival in Vienna.

Her current project, What has been stored, has received a research grant for emerging talent from the Flemish Government and is being developed with the support of Kunsthal Gent, workspacebrussels, Kunstencentrum BUDA, and a.pass.
