Operette

theatre
18—19.03.2022

The frivolous Baron Firulet and Count Agenor both want to conquer Albertinette. They shower her with the most refined clothing. But secretly, Albertinette, trapped in strange and hideous clothes, dreams of nudity. Revolutionaries, meanwhile, infiltrate the court: they want to dethrone the reigning fashion - the Form - at the upcoming royal ball. Distrust your clothes! Question your costume!

In Operette, Polish writer Witold Gombrowicz presents the history of the 20th century as a series of costume changes. In contrast, he places the human being who wants to withdraw from this process in order to be able to be 'naked'. Tibaldus is now staging their third Gombrowicz: a performance that philosophises lightly about the cogwheel of history, with the passion and holy stupidity of an operetta.

•  Timeau De Keyser, Hans Mortelmans and Simon De Winne met each other in the drama department of the KASK in Ghent and founded Tibaldus in 2009. They have already appeared three times in the Kaaitheater programme, twice with a different text by Gombrowicz: Het huwelijk and Yvonne, prinses van Bourgondië.
