For this performance, choreographer Jérôme Bel asked actress Jolente de Keersmaeker not to play any of her usual roles from the theatre repertoire but to perform pieces from modern dance. According to Bel, certain 21st century choreographies are just as significant and important as the most meaningful theatre texts.
Yet Dance for an Actress is not just a dance performance. As Jolente de Keermaeker still has some way to being a professional dancer, she throws all the usual formality of dance overboard and lets her imagination do the talking. Expect an evening as dancing as it is theatrical on the cutting edge of choreography and language, of movement and words, of body and imagination.
• Jolente De Keersmaeker is a founding member of the theatre company STAN. In recent years she has appeared on the podium at Kaaiheater in Move (on), Poquelin II, the Bernhard trilogy and The way she dies. With performances such as Jérôme Bel, Le dernier spectacle, The show must go on or the more recent Gala, Jérôme Bel has had an enormous influence on the development of the performing arts since the beginning of the 90s. Most of his performances have been staged at Kaaitheater.
