Citizens in the world
CANCELLED - Susan Neiman will be replaced by David Van Reybrouck
Citizens in the world
The world is in the midst of change, while at the same time there is little that can be changed. There is a great temptation to sit back cynically and do nothing – but isn’t that simply a form of laziness. Should we not argue for a mature idealism, as the American writer and moral philosopher Susan Neiman does? It’s not enough to know the world, but having the courage to make it a more just place is. This is the sort of thinking – akin to the Enlightenment – that we urgently need in these uncertain times. Annelies Verbeke reflects on it in her last book Thirty Days. Last, but not least, how do young people perceive Europe? We will hear perspectives from Warda El-Kaddouri, a Belgian Youth Delegate to the United Nations and Jeroen Olyslaegers, author and theater-maker.
