Amadeus
Mozart vs Salieri
When Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart dies in 1791 rumours soon begin to spread. The most persistent is that the jealous court composer Salieri drove him to his death…
Amadeus is about the fateful clash between Mozart’s dynamic and unadulterated talent and the craftsmanship of the hardworking Salieri. However, it is also a duel between two theatre-makers, in which the cultural entrepreneur is set opposite the artist, brutality opposite diplomacy, naivety opposite distrust, the muses opposite career-building. What is true artistic quality and how does one become as successful as one possibly can?
Vincent Rietveld, member of De Warme Winkel collective, and Marien Jongewaard, cofounder and inspirer of Nieuw West, take up the gauntlet.
• De Warme Winkel is a highly individual theatre group with a love of history and a fascination with our multiform era. Their performances are combative, playful, unpolished, energetic and relevant. Last season in Kaaitheater they presented the stunning Gavrilo Princip (selected for the 2015 Theatre Festival). Previously they presented Weense Herfst, a series of performances portraying early twentieth-century artists. Nieuw West and De Warme Winkel also coproduced Kokoschka Live!, which was selected for the 2010 Theatre Festival.
