Se hace camino al andar / Claquettes
The CENTRALE presents a double bill with work by the Spanish-Brussels artist Emilio López-Menchero and the Spanish-Parisian Esther Ferrer. López-Menchero (1960) is best known for his performances and his work in public spaces. In Festival Kanal 2010 we presented his Checkpoint Charlie on the bridge over the canal at Porte de Flandre. He has participated in exhibitions in the SMAK, WIELS, Middelheim, etc. Esther Ferrer (1937) is a pioneer of performance art. In 1999 she represented Spain at the Venice Biennale.
• Se hace camino al andar: Animals walk, people walk, everyone walks. In many of her performances Esther Ferrer walks. You walk with her or with López-Menchero through the city, with the words of the Spanish poet Antonio Machado in your head: There is no road, the road emerges as you walk. You leave from the CENTRALE or Zsenne art lab.
• Claquettes: López-Menchero listens on his headphones to the song Carmela by Camarón de la Isla. He snaps his fingers and stamps his feet in time to the music. You can’t hear what he hears and vice versa.
