Prelude
Radical changes
New terms turn up in the ecological debate, such as ‘resilience’. Resilience is then contrasted with ‘sustainability’. It is a term that posits a world in which radical and unexpected change will become the norm, asking us to consider how we prepare for and accommodate change. This theme profoundly interests choreographer Ula Sickle and sound artist Yann Leguay. In their previous projects they examined the relationship between man and technology. Prelude develops this theme.
True to the form, Prelude, is the preface to a longer work to come, but also a powerful performance in its own right. Sickle and Leguay work for the first time with Norwegian vocalist and performer Stine Janvin Motland, whose use of extended vocal technique pushes the limits of the human voice. In dialogue with the technical elements present on stage, her voice acts as a guiding thread and a warning call.
• Sickle and Leguay have worked together previously on several intimate solo performances: Light Solos (2013), Solid Gold (2010), Jolie (2011) and Extreme Tension (2014), – the last three were presented at the Kaaistudio’s.
