Plateau Effect

dance
06—07.03.2015

Almost psychedelic

In Plateau Effect by the Swedish-Dutch choreographer Jefta van Dinther, the bodies of the dancers, materials, light and sound all play an equally important role. The nine dancers, as one strong community, enter into a confrontation with ropes, cables and high platforms, in which they first take the lead, only to be directed by the materials.

For this magical, sensual, almost psychedelic performance, Van Dinther is again working with the sound designer David Kiers and lighting designer Minna Tiikkainen.

Since the Cullberg Ballet from Stockholm successfully performed an earlier work by Jefta van Dinther (The Way Things Go, 2011), the choreographer has featured high on the company’s wish list. Plateau Effect is his first major group work. Previous choreographic works by Van Dinther include The Blanket Dance (2011), which he made together with Frederic Gies and DD Dorvillier, who is also well known to audiences here, and IT'S IN THE AIR (2008), in which he cooperated with Kaai resident artist Mette Ingvartsen.

‘Hallucinatory, never shown before, it seems to be a film that we are looking at ...delightfully beautiful.’ – Theaterkrant
