De Nieuwe Democratie, naar andere vormen van politiek
A critical nationalism
The young Dutch sociologist Willem Schinkel made quite an impression last year with his book De Nieuwe Democratie, naar andere vormen van politiek (‘The New Democracy: towards different forms of politics’; not translated into English). He argues for a new politicisation and a critical nationalism that views the nation as a Utopian rather than a museological project. He opens up stagnated debates on economics, integration, culture, nation, law, religion and ecology and shows how we can move towards alternative forms of political thinking.
After the talk, sociologist Rudi Laermans, bio-economist Anneleen Kenis and artist Christophe Meierhans will discuss the book with the author.
This talk and debate are part of the Me, Myself & We series and are linked to Christophe Meierhans’ play Some Use for your Broken Clay Pots, which is on later in the week.
