O.L.V. van Vaak/Notre Dame du Sommeil

performance
exhibition
01—02.03.2013

Summer 2012. Berlinde de Bruyckere presents a selection of her sculptures and drawings in Istanbul. Vincent Dunoyer ‘lends’ his body for a performance called Loan that lasts two months. It’s a daily ritual of two dance sessions in the gallery, an encounter between movement and matter, between the musicality of the gestures and the silence of the bodies that De Bruyckere has put on the wooden tables, anatomical details like wax ex-votos under glass bells. Now, the dancer has invited the artist to present an exhibition-performance in a theatre. A dialogue between body and objects, inspired by the two ‘sleep’ sessions that should have taken place in the gallery, if it had not exceptionally closed on a Sunday. This is a new meeting of ‘live’ art and ‘visual’ art, conceived for the Kaaistudio’s in rue Notre-Dame-du-Sommeil, in the early 17th century the site of a chapel in honour of Our Lady, the patron saint of insomniacs.
