Installations

Giggle, gossip and laugh

Kris Verdonck presents four installations from the ten-part project K, a society, which premiered at the Theater der Welt festival in Essen (Germany) in the summer of 2010. K stands for Kafka. Verdonck created these images after being inspired by the world, the situations and the characters in the works of Kafka. A world that is like a locked fortress. A society that is like a nightmare. In Mouse we see a mouse walk into a trap in very slow motion. In Presyncope a camera slowly slides down the facade of a skyscraper: in the meantime someone calmly describes his thoughts during the descent. Gossip is a projection many metres long in which a line of people are huddled together; they giggle, gossip and laugh; they are all different, but all behave the same.

The party that concludes the residents’ week will open with Shell (also from K, a society). A noisy surprise to ‘open the dance’.

RESIDENTS' WEEK
In 2013-2016 four artists will be in residence at the Kaaitheater: Kris Verdonck, Mette Ingvartsen, Eleanor Bauer and Ivo Dimchev. In recent years they came up with excellent work. Moreover, all four of them expressed the desire to create work for large stages. We would like to support them in this evolution towards  productions for the larger stage. In December our four residents will be presenting a number of special productions.
