50/50 & ELEANOR!
Mette Ingvartsen is reviving 50/50, a production from 2004. In 50/50 she seeks a form of physical expression that is both extreme and spectacular. She processes the strictly coded language of movement seen in a rock concert, an opera or a circus act until it acquires a deformed expressivity.
In ELEANOR!, her debut production, Eleanor Bauer presented a lively and (self) critical diatribe on artists who want to do their work honestly and yet have to fight for recognition and money in the bank. The artist teaches himself how to sell himself and self-promotion is a masterpiece in itself. A portrait of the artist as a ‘postfordist’ art prostitute!
Bauer was still a student at PARTS when ELEANOR! premiered in the Danspace Project at St. Mark's Church in New York in January 2005. This ironic-critical piece of dance theatre toured extensively in Europe at the invitation of the International Young Maker's Marathon, organised by the Bâtard and IT festivals.
RESIDENTS' WEEK
In 2013-2016 four artists will be in residence at the Kaaitheater: Kris Verdonck, Mette Ingvartsen, Eleanor Bauer and Ivo Dimchev. In recent years they came up with excellent work. Moreover, all four of them expressed the desire to create work for large stages. We would like to support them in this evolution towards productions for the larger stage. In December our four residents will be presenting a number of special productions described on the following pages. Read more >
