A Talk
When we speak to each other
What is the melody of a love story? With what sort of rhythm do we doubt each other? Do we dance differently when we tell each other secrets? We talk every day about all sorts of things. Sometimes it is to convey something that’s important to us, sometimes just to hear the sound of our own voice. Jolika Sudermann and Alma Söderberg observed and listened to conversations, their own and others. What they found was melody, gesture and rhythm. They noticed that when we speak to each other we are actually singing and dancing with each other. A Talk is a light but virtuoso game of word compositions and language improvisation, performed by a charming and refreshing female duo!
• Jolika Sudermann and Alma Söderberg recently graduated from the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (college for the arts): Alma from the choreography department (SNDO) and Jolika from the mime course. They made their debut with Freedom of Speech, which they created for the 2008 Over het IJ Festival in Amsterdam. This short piece was performed at festivals and theatres all over Europe and in 2010 won the audience prize at the 100° Berlin Festival in the Sophiensaele in Berlin. Alma and Jolika share a fascination for the connection between language, music and dance.
Alma Söderberg is currently in residence at Workspace Brussels and will be showing a work in progress at the Working Title Platform on 15th and 16th June in the Kaaistudio's.
