How do dancers and choreographers talk about their work?

In 2008 Philipp Gehmacher invited ten choreographers to talk about their language of movement on a large empty stage in a Viennese theatre. The result was a surprising multiplicity of voices and stories: every solo testified to a unique view of the body, movement and the confrontation with space. Gehmacher has compiled yet another new series for Kaaitheater, comprising existing solos and newly commissioned work. Each evening there are two dancers or choreographers on the programme.

In his productions Philipp Gehmacher shows himself to be the creator of an exceptionally still physical language. He regularly collaborates with other artists: at the Kaaitheater, for instance, he presented the compelling MAYBE FOREVER with Meg Stuart, which will be revived next season. Gehmacher launched the first walk+talk series in Vienna in 2008 and is also the curator of the series at the Kaaitheater.

Philipp Gehmacher: 'Going through parts of my physical history of making movement, trying to make this history available, my voice will be at times personal yet public. My words will mean as much as they can mean and my actions will accept and hold your gaze upon me. Postures, gestures, an extended arm, carrying her across the stage. No sound, no costume, no props.'

Anne Juren lives and works in Grenoble and Vienna. She studied in Lyon and New York, at the Trisha Brown studios. Besides her activity as a dancer with various choreographers (Laurent Pichaud, Saskia Hölbling), she created the solos OSLO, A? and Code Series. She created J’aime in collaboration with Alice Chauchat and Look, look in collaboration with Krõõt Jurak.
