The Song

dance
21—23.12.2010

A flock of starlings

Nine men and one woman whirl across the stage like a flock of starlings, free, completely liberated in the air. The configurations change at lightning speed and are impossible to describe… The fundamental idea is to find the way back to the essence of what a performance can be. To create The Song, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker cooperated with the artists Ann Veronica Janssens and Michel François. Just as the choreography returns to the essence of the body, the stage is illuminated from a single source of light, and the space is defined by a single curtain which makes a movement at crucial moments. There is a great deal of silence in The Song until a sound effects woman abruptly awakens our hearing with a few sounds. Towards the end of the performance a song is literally born: a Beatles song from the White Album.

The Song speaks of a return of these artists to their sources, but also of our chaotic, transforming world. We are pleased to be putting this impressive and radical performance on the bill again.

Extra: The Song Unplugged + Party: 23/12 (Kaaicafé - free entrance)
After the end of the last performance, the dancers are offering a free concert: in the Kaaicafé they will perform 'unplugged' versions of their favourite Beatles songs.
