MANIFESTEN!
Radical breaks
To accompany the presentation of the work of Lawrence Weiner, Strombeek cultural centre is organising an event that focuses on the notion of the manifesto as a public expression of the intention to make a radical break with the artistic past. Frederik Leen, the curator of the Museum of Modern Art in Brussels, will talk about the avant-garde at the end of the sixties. The theatre-maker Jan Lauwers (Needcompany) will speak about turning points in the development of theatre. Jan Ritsema considers the work of the choreographer Jérôme Bel to be a striking development in contemporary dance; the musician and composer Eric Sleichim (BL!NDMAN) talks about highly individual choices in contemporary music.
In Het Kabinet we can see Maarten Seghers’ & OHNO COOPERATION intense audiovisual imagery. This installation is the gently expressive guardian of beauty and believes in the importance and purpose of utter nonsense and the banality of things.
You can also watch videos by Lawrence Weiner (US), Adrian Paci (ALB) and Deimantas Narkevicius (LIT), and there’s music too!
