‘Twin Peaks served neat’

In recent years, Abattoir Fermé, a collective from Mechelen, has become one of  Flanders’ leading companies. Their extraordinary performances flirt with horror, transgression and underground culture and won them a nomination for the Theatre Festival in 2005 and 2007.

In Moe maar op en dolend (Tired, but up and wandering) the company takes the next step towards finding its own theatrical idiom. Words have almost become unnecessary. In its place we are presented with raw images that imprint themselves on the retina, take our breath away and stimulate the senses. The spectator is locked into a small anteroom of the subconscious where there is no logic and dreams turn into dark nightmares. Strange rarefied characters loom up against a background of violence, fantasy, death and disturbed eroticism. The sound montage by KRENG makes the images powerful and hypnotic. De Morgen newspaper described it as ‘Twin Peaks served neat’.
