Why We Love Action
Mette Ingvartsen works on extreme body expressions. In her earlier work she dealt with situation like a rock concert, opera, circus or notions of pleasure and desire.
In Why We Love Action the performers scream, fight, kill, search buildings, evade explosions, hang from cliffs. They create doubles of characters, voices, sounds, images, and stunts. What happens to our perception when the ‘real’ characters are replaced by anonymous stand-ins and when their actions are copied and duplicated? What sort of theatricality does this sort of experiment lead to? It’s no longer about following a logic of cause and effect, but rather about effects making up a logic of their own.
Why We Love Action is intended to create a film-like sensation in the setting of a live performance, stripping the film down to pure action.
