Goldfish Game

theatre
26.01.2007

In 2002 Jan Lauwers made the feature film Goldfish Game with the Needcompany performers. The film tells the story of a small community: a family, a few friends and servants together in a large country house. Beneath the tangle of their relationships smoulder all manner of secrets, which are brought to the surface by the arrival of a stranger. What seemed like a paradise changes into a hell. As in classical drama, the scenario (by Jan Lauwers and Dick Crane) maintains the unity of time and place. The parts were written to fit Needcompany’s international cast.

This ‘independent’ film was shot with two digital cameras under the most flexible production conditions. This resulted in a lively film full of movement which comes close to the live character of theatre. Goldfish Game was selected for a variety of international festivals including those in Venice and Ghent in 2002.
