Chunking
Needcompany will be our guests with the new production by Grace Ellen Barkey, as well as a new Needlapb.
Grace Ellen Barkey is an actress and dancer for Needcompany. She is also the company’s full-time choreographer. She has been building up a successful international career for herself with her own stage work since 1992. With (AND) (2002) she transcended the boundaries of theatre, dance and music with irresistible flair. The performance played to full houses in the Théâtre de la Bastille in Paris and was applauded in Le Monde as a many-sided, dazzling fable.
In her new production, Chunking, Barkey constructs scenes from conscious and unconscious memories. This act of construction is always followed by deconstruction. Something new develops from the emptiness that has been left behind. Grace Ellen Barkey describes her love of theatre as an obsession with framing bodies. ‘In the end it is all just show.’ Chunking also comprises a twenty-minute choreographic piece set to Kill Yr Idols, Sonic Youth’s 1983 Five Song Album.
