Expanding Energy

performance
debate
08.10.2011

We are obsessed with energy. It guides our thoughts and actions, though we are not always aware of it. Davis Freeman (Damaged Goods, Forced Entertainment, et al.) has created four performances on this topic, midway between a stand-up comedy show, a conference, a piece of choreography and a concert. He is aided in this by actors from Forced Entertainment, musicians from Einstürzende Neubauten and a great many volunteers.

We are showing the four parts in a single day. You can watch them all in succession (with a snack in between) or just choose the one(s) you want to see.

Part 1: Defining Energy – 3 pm  (60 min.)
First and foremost, what is energy? We take a look at several
definitions: spiritual, kinetic, sexual, electric, personal, political,
etc. You won’t believe your ears (or eyes)!

Part 2: Securing Energy – 5 pm  (60 min.)
A man and a woman, both in designer suits, welcome you to the Grand
Neoliberal Show. A brilliant docu-performance that will mislead you in
more ways than one.

Part 3: Consuming Energy – 7 pm  (60 min.)
Tinne Van der Straeten (lawyer at the Blixt energy firm), Lieven De
Cauter (cultural philosopher), Bert Stevens (Operations Director at Nike
Europe) and Kevin Rosner (editor of The Journal of Energy Security)
will debate the energy issue. Before or after this you can enjoy a
snack: slow food or fast food, it’s up to you.

Part 4: Expanding Energy – 9 pm
The grand finale. The musicians Paul Lemp and Joachim Arbeit
(Einstürzende Neubauten) help mix up an explosive cocktail of energy
matters. And there will be dance!
