my shapes, your words, their grey
The medium of grey
Dancer and choreographer Philipp Gehmacher is a familiar guest at the Kaaitheater, from his collaboration with among others Meg Stuart and with his own creations. In his work he goes on an almost obsessive quest for something that is practically impossible, namely universal communication. Or as he says in solo with Jack (2012): ‘What is the point of having a language, if you are the only one who can speak it?’
In an equally obsessive way the colour grey appears in his recent work, as part of that engagement with language. He juxtaposes the Grauraum or greyspace with the black box of the theatre or the white cube of the visual arts. He has since christened his own studio Grauraum.
He introduces my shapes, your words, their grey as an exhibition of a visual and choreographic movement that infects the language of objects with the language of the body and linguistic language and that takes place in the medium of grey, in which all colours vibrate.
my shapes, your words, their grey is a performance which is part of a wider exhibition-performance project.
