Schwalbe
Man, no frills
Schwalbe could well be the most exciting theatre collective in the Netherlands. With wordless and extremely physical performances, these young people strip man of all his frills. If you missed Schwalbe in previous seasons you can easily remedy this with more than four revivals and a brand new production, and all within the space of five days.
‘Every performance is partly a reaction to the previous one. Ever since our first piece, the theme of group and individual has always been part of our discussion. In the first two performances, Save them and Schwalbe performs on its own, we were individual performers alongside one another, out of which grew the curiosity to relate directly to each other, without abandoning a performative style. That led to the violent Schwalbe cheats. Then the curiosity grew and we wanted to relate to people outside our group. This resulted in Schwalbe is looking for crowds.’
In this series it will become clear how Schwalbe is always looking for extreme physical theatre and a pure, sober form. The sequence ends with the new production, Schwalbe performs a time, in which Schwalbe takes your time.
