Cavaliers impurs
Latifa Laâbissi and Antonia Baehr have conceived this new duo as a series of heterogeneous sequences, a hybrid cabaret, an unconventional collage with a Camp aesthetic. Two bodies of different shapes and sizes, in socks, two concentrates of images and different references mix their respective vocabularies. Laâbissi and Baehr intertwine their worlds in songs that question codes and blur boundaries. In turn belly dancers, minimalist clubbers, cabaret trainers, a Laurel-and-Hardy comedy duo, a punk band without guitars, cowboy trainers and anatomists of the unclean.
Set designer Nadia Lauro's giant cardboard box simultaneously serves as shelter, prop and stage. As witnesses to a broken modernity, their bodies examine debris, rearrange poses, sample symbols, sing sabotaged hymns and disrupt statements.
This performance is a part of HP24, organised by Les Halles de Schaerbeek.
Mixing genres, reflecting and redefining formats, Latifa Laâbissi's work seeks to bring onto the stage a multiple off-field; an anthropological landscape where stories, figures and voices are cut out, and through which the signs of the times seep. Kaaitheater has presented her pieces Adieu et Merci and the performance/ritual La Nuit Tombe Quand Elle Veut, that she created together with Marcelo Evelin.
Antonia Baehr is a performer, a filmmaker and a visual artist. As a choreographer she researches the fiction of everyday-life performance and the fiction of theatre, working at the edges of that which defines us as human beings.
