BBBB IT(E)S OF OOTS – A SLAPSTICK OPERA OF GRAMMATICS (working title)

BBBB IT(E)S OF OOTS by Ode de Kort is a playful, physical exploration of how meaning appears and slips away. A reader, a character, an opera voice, a boot, and the space itself set out together on a journey. What happens between a B and a T? Can a letter stumble, sing, or glitch? Can an object become language—or lose all meaning?

Through stutters, repetitions, and fragments, an absurd and poetic game unfolds, where language constantly tips and tilts. A boot marks a space, a voice fills a gap, and a motorised performer moves unpredictably between what we grasp and what escapes understanding. Between sounds, letters, and bodies, BBBB IT(E)S OF OOTS searches for a grammar of the uncertain—inviting you to stutter along, get lost, and see differently.

• The artistic practice of Ode de Kort (1992) is an ongoing investigation into the relationship between language and the body. This often takes the form of experiments with the grammar and vocabulary of a single element, such as a circle or a rubber boot. Through repetition, deconstruction, translation, and play, different characters emerge in a poetic and performative universe. This process takes shape in installations, performances, texts, photography, video, and sound. By zooming in and out, repeating, and shifting, Ode de Kort searches for rhythms and interstitial spaces that can uncover meanings. She has shown her work at Kunsthal Aarhus (DK), SpazioA Pistoia (IT), Una Boccata d’Art (IT), Les Ateliers Claus (BE), Argos (BE), Liste Art Fair Basel (CH), CAB (BE), De Warande (BE), FOMU (BE), and Riga Photography Biennial (LV).
