Monica - Episode 4: Ultraviolet Stroke
The artist duo Pablo Lilienfeld and Federico Vladimir delve into the family history of their mothers, who are named Monica. Both Monicas were born in Argentina in the 1950s as daughters of war refugees and later moved to Spain. One was an ecofeminist painter, the other a muse and nude model for her husband's photos. The paintings and photographs form the starting point for a speculative telenovela in which their diasporic genealogies are unravelled.
Musician and choreographer Pablo Lilienfeld and visual artist Federico Vladimir have shared an artistic practice since 2014. Their work is intimately intertwined with their relationship and often starts from intimacy to question prevailing narratives about collectivity. In their performances, videos and installations they work together with family, friends, lovers, viruses, ghosts and other companions. Their work has been presented at festivals such as Copenhagen Contemporary, Santarcangelo, Bâtard, Belluard and Sâlmon.
