Change of Plans

dance
music
09—10.03.2024

Change of Plans lets you experience how exciting it is to watch dancers who constantly are forced to adjust and align their plans. Choreographer Femke Gyselinck walks this obstacle-course of tension together with Zanne Boon and Oskar Stalpaert, two dancers of the inclusive dance company Platform-K. They all deal with the choreography provided in their own way.

Musicians Hendrik Lasure (piano, keyboard) and Adia Vanheerentals (sax) wrote an original soundtrack for the performance and perform it live. They composed an arsenal of rhythmic and melodic themes that they can vary, abruptly break down and combine at will, and in dialogue with the dancers. The viewer senses a structure - a plan - but also the pleasure of the freedom to toss that structure around. Who will follow whom in this duet of dance and music, and who will change course next?

Aslı Çiçek's whimsical stage design enhances the play and naturally takes the dancers off track. When a dancer stumbles, that immediately becomes an invitation for the other performers.

Femke Gyselinck is a dancer and choreographer.  She worked as a freelance dancer and spent nine years as artistic assistant to Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker/Rosas. In her own work, she searches for a dance language closely intertwined with music, combining bold performativity with a refined form of expressivity. We previously showed Moving Ballads (2020), which she made with her brothers Lander and Wannes Gyselinck, and Letters 2 dance (2022). Since 2023, she has been part of the Antwerp dance organisation GRIP.

Platform-K is a dance company for dancers and dance makers with and without disabilities. Platform-K enables dancers with disabilities to professionalise, focusing on their own style and development. Oskar Stalpaert has previously performed at Kaaitheater, in collaboration with Michiel Vandevelde (The Goldberg Variations, 2021).
