Mystery Sonatas / For Rosa
[The performance on Sunday at 15:00 was cancelled due to covid. Tickets will be refunded]
After The Goldberg Variations, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker continues her choreographic journey with the fifteen virtuoso Mystery Sonatas, the best-known compositions by Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber. Attracted by the clarity of its musical structure and its numerological approach, De Keersmaeker immersed herself in the mystical and geometrical richness of this music, making the Sonatas her own in a choreography for six dancers.
Biber's sonatas are a musical translation of the fifteen Holy Mysteries from the life of the Virgin Mary. They are divided into three parts of five: the glad, the sad, and the glorious. These intrinsically religious and narrative sonatas are also a warm invitation to dance, thanks to the musical dance forms such as Gigues, Allemandes and Courantes.
• For this creation Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker renews her collaboration with violinist Amandine Beyer (and her ensemble Gli Incogniti), with whom she previously made Partita 2 and The Six Brandenburg Concertos – both of which were once part of the Kaaitheater programme. This spring you can also experience Dark Red, a 'danced exhibition' in Rosas' home base in Forrest.
You will hear my four-stringed lyre, tuned in fifteen different ways. — Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber (1644-1704)
