Culturo Says No

theatre
05—06.05.2020

Please note: this show has been cancelled to help contain the spread of the new coronavirus.

‘I resist the laziness of resistance.
I am disgusted by how rage imagines itself to be a valid argument.
I am ashamed of the dullness of the screamers.

Now that marches no longer work and critical cries are copied clichés,
it is time for confusion as resistance, for philosophy as ‘Anti-Commotion’,
a mishmash of laughtivism, situationism and difficultism.
As a counterbalance to predictable reproaches from both sides.
Reviling one another is weak and actually strengthens the enemy.
So let us try to offend like the best of them and to undermine with nonsense.’

• Joost Vandecasteele is a Brussels-based playwright and theatremaker. His award-winning debut book Hoe de wereld perfect functioneert zonder mij was the basis for the television series Generatie B. After Otaku – the first comedy show ever to be selected for the TheatreFestival – and In Onaanvaardbare Staat and Habeus Corpus – which all premiered at the Kaaistudios – he is returning with this new solo. He is currently also working on a novel, a film script and a videogame.
