A discussion on art, representation, gender and race with Jimmy Robert, Alexis Blake, a.o. Moderated by Sara Jansen.
• Born in Guadeloupe, Jimmy Robert currently lives in Berlin. He is a graduate of Goldsmiths, University of London and the Rijksakademie (Amsterdam). He has exhibited at Tate Britain and WIELS, and presented performances at Performa 17, Playground 2015, and others. He has been featured in the Performatik programme twice before, in 2011 and 2013.
• Alexis Blake has a multidisciplinary practice that coalesces visual art and performance through methods of translation such as choreography, sculpture, video, and/or text. In 2007, she received an MA in Fine Art from the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. Her work has been presented at numerous locations, such as the Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam), ExtraCity (Antwerp), Fondazione Antonio Ratti (Como) and La Triennale di Milano XXI.
• Sara Jansen is scholar and dramaturg in dance. She obtained degrees in Performance Studies (New York University) and Japanese Studies (KU Leuven, Belgium), and was a visiting scholar at Waseda University (Tokyo, Japan). She collaborated on performances by a.o. Heine Avdal & Yukiko Shinozaki/fieldworks, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker/Rosas, and Trajal Harrell.
