Verklärte Nacht

dance
15.04—01.05.2016

Unabashed romanticism

The revival of Verklärte Nacht enables you to discover (or rediscover) one of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's finest works in a special location, the Rosas Performance Space, which is De Keersmaeker’s workplace.

Allow yourself to be seduced by this unabashedly romantic duet to the lyrical sounds of Arnold Schoenberg's strings. His late-romantic composition was inspired by a poem by Richard Dehmel: a woman tells her lover that she is pregnant – unfortunately by another man.

In 1995 Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker created a group choreography based on Schönberg’s composition. In 2014 she has rewritten the piece as a duet, so that both the musical and narrative aspects come to the foreground.

Schönberg’s lyricism transports us into the emotional world of the lovers. A shameless romantic love story in the dark light of a Verklärte Nacht (transfigured night).
