Ladies
Lina Lapelyte explores the phenomenon of the song, using it as an object to examine issues of displacement, otherness and beauty. She uses re-enactment to question everyday life scenarios and glitches. In the performance-concert Ladies, Lapelyte invites four women from the Lietuva ensemble – a folkloristic orchestra that toured worldwide during the Sovjet-regime – in order to represent the identity of the Lithuanian state. Today they perform a multi-layered composition by Lapelyte using kanklès (a traditional string instrument). A sense of unity and presence renders their performance both contemporary and timeless.
