Dance #2 - this show has been cancelled
Both shows have been cancelled due to injury.
In 2008, together with the Kunstenfestivaldesarts, we presented Eszter Salamon and Christine De Smedt’s Dance #1/Driftworks, an exuberant and frivolous work that plays with the audience’s perceptions. In Dance #2 they develop this further.
Dance #2 consists of three parts: listening & mouthing, breathing & assembling, words & gestures. The titles describe what the dancers do on stage. They make noises, touch one another, move, explore each other’s bodies and so, in a ping-pong game of question and answer, invent a language – language as a ‘by-product’ of any artistic or love relationship. The audience occupies the same space as the performers, thus forming a ‘horizontal landscape of bodies’.
• Christine De Smedt was a member of Les Ballets C. de la B from 1991 to 2012. She worked with Meg Stuart, Xavier Le Roy, Mette Ingvartsen and others. She is currently preparing together with Bojana Cvejic a work that will be presented in the turbine hall at Tate Modern. Eszter Salamon has also been a frequent guest at the Kaaitheater, appearing for example in Giszelle (2005), which she created together with Xavier Le Roy, and in the wonderful Magyar Tàncok, a performance with live Hungarian folk music.
