Jake & Pete's big reconciliation attempt for the disputes from the past

dance
17—18.01.2013

Two brothers, both born in Burundi, both with good and bad memories of their youth, both ending up in the artistic world, one as a dancer and choreographer, the other as a musician. Pieter and Jakob Ampe take being brothers as a starting point for their performance Jake & Pete’s big reconciliation attempt for the disputes from the past.

They study each other carefully, as if looking in a mirror. Not only do they share their background, but in appearance they are also difficult to distinguish from one another. They discuss the things that divide them and unite them, in a way that is sometimes understated and sometimes extreme. The dancer discovers his voice, the singer gets to know his body and together they let themselves go completely in their shared penchant for offbeat humour.

Jake & Pete’s big reconciliation attempt for the disputes from the past
was created as part of the international mentor programme CONNECT CONNECT, in which choreographer Alain Platel mentored the two brothers.

• Pieter Ampe has already created the dance duet Still Standing You. His two year older brother Jakob studied jazz singing and speech therapy. He is a singer in the rock band The Germans.
