Gaze is a Gap is a Ghost

The visible and the invisible

In his new dance performance, Gaze is a Gap is a Ghost , Daniel Linehan establishes a dialogue between the visible and the invisible and confronts our knowledge of the world with our inner life. Using video cameras, he gives us the impression that we are looking through the eyes of the three dancers. From the ‘inside’ view, it appears that it is not so much the dancers who are moving, but the space.

In this way Gaze is a Gap is a Ghost poses a series of questions about the relationship between humans and technology, between the real and the virtual. How does impersonal technology influence our ideas of intimacy? How do the digital media influence the way we experience our physical existence? At the end of the performance the divide which separates the dancers from the choreography, and man from structure, appears to be inevitable and irreconcilable.

• Last season we presented Daniel Linehan’s wonderful Zombie Aporia. Linehan was already a dancer and choreographer in New York before he started training at PARTS He has worked with Miguel Gutierrez, Michael Helland, the Big Art Group and others. His aim is to ‘softly obscure the line that separates dance from everything else’.
