The Black Lamb 2
Two years ago the documentary-maker and artist Els Dietvorst moved from Brussels to Ireland. She is working on an online film project from a sheep farm in Duncormick. At Burning Ice # 6 she will be showing the second update of this online film project, called The Black Lamb.
One might easily proclaim this the year of the farmer. First there was the excessively wet summer, then a rotten winter. Crops didn’t grow enough or at all, and the animals came down with all sorts of strange illnesses. Death was everywhere. In this second update, Els keeps track of four local characters in their lives and work and especially emphasises their relationship with their animals. Take Matt, for example, the thatcher who calls his chicken and three dogs his only friends, Frank, who talks about his newborn lambs, Orla, who tells of her special relationship with Zwartbles sheep, and Lilly and Vivienne’s reflection on the ethical killing of animals.
